From 1519 to 1522 Fernando de Magallanes and Juan Sebastián Elcano left to go around the globe. Magellan succumbed to a poisoned arrow, but his expedition was successful. This historical work of science fiction explores the first trip around the world and the relationship of Fernando de Magallanes with the church, the state, his successor Juan Sebastián Elcano and the indigenous peoples of the five continents. During a 500-year confinement, Magellan engages in dialogues with Shakespeare, stars, and stones in his efforts to stay sane. It travels from human evolution to the present day, forcing us to wonder exactly what the first circumnavigation of the earth brought us, five hundred years later.
